$280 (plus $70 materials fee)
(Participants must attend both Saturday and Sunday to complete the workshop).
The moment we’ve all be waiting for…..Come weave your very own medium sized stake and stand twined willow packbasket! This course will take two full days of intensive weaving. Students will learn to make an English oval base, use many of the skills they have learned in previous basketry courses as well as learn some new patterns and spend time shaping the willow into their dream packbasket shape. Straps are not included in this course, though we will talk through possibilities and students will be invited to make straps at home.
PREREQUISITES: Students are asked to have taken Foundations of Willow Basketry (register here) as well as the Medium Willow Basketry class (register here) with Gelsey this year or in previous years.
Instructor, Gelsomina Malferrari
Co-founder of Laughing Coyote, Gelsomina Malferrari comes from a family of artisans, and her ability to craft beautiful objects comes from a lifetime of creating. Raised in a bilingual family, the strong family ties of her Italian heritage continue to be important. Gelsomina is passionate about fiber, making baskets, spinning, weaving, felting. Gardening, foraging and preserving fill her time in the green months.
