In this class, we will explore the fundamentals and process of botanical illustrating, learning to zoom our eyes in to the small details of the flora around us. The class will frame drawing through identification based on common plant family characteristics. We will enjoy an exploratory tour around Dharma's Garden collecting & identifying specimen, then students will have ample time to draw their own found speciman. Beginners and experienced artists welcome!
Instructor, Phoebe Draper
I recently moved to Boulder after spending my life in the Blue Ridge foothills of Virginia. I am a recent graduate of the School of Architecture from the University of Virginia, and plan to begin a career in Landscape Architecture after some future years of traveling and working with different landscapes. I am an artist of varying mediums, primarily in botanical / architectural drawing as well as hoop dance and performance. I am currently long-term traveling in order to study various ecosystems and plant communities through botanical illustration, ecological restoration work, and environmental education.
